King Django on Roots Rock Rebel! April 3 podcast

Roots Rock Rebel

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

10pm-12am, CKUT, 90.3 FM, Montreal!

Fyyyyyyaaaaahhhh!!

Welcome back to another weekly podcast of Roots Rock Rebel on CKUT, people-powered radio from Montreal, beaming out to the world and beyond. Our very special guest on the podcast this week is the one and only King Django. For many of you ska and reggae fans out there, King Django needs no introduction. His career has basically spanned the history of ska music in North America. He’s a man who is always busy either touring, recording, mixing, or producing music for countless bands. Django recently dropped a new album, “Anwhere I roam”, which features some great collaborations with bands across the USA, Europe, and Jamaica such as Mr. T-Bone, The Forthrights, and the Soul Syndicate. You can grab the new album via the Stubborn Records website.

On the podcast, you’ll also hear some great new music from Toots and the Maytals, Sammy Kay and the Fast Four, and The Selecter.

Be sure to tune in to the show next Wednesday from 10pm-12am EST for an interview with Agent Jay of the Slackers, talking about his new project The Reggay Lords!

Until next week, stay rude, and stay rebel!

Dr. Ring Ding Ska-Vaganza is PIPING HOT! on GO FEET! Radio 220

I first encountered the sweet ska sounds of Dr Ring Ding when he was being backed by the Senior Allstars. One of his tunes, Call 809, was featured on a hot Stubborn Records compilation that I had and it was called, ‘Midnight Radio Vol. 2: Workin’ the Night Shift’. Dr Ring Ding’s sound could have easily been mistaken for authentic Jamaican ska but it wasn’t. I soon learnt his sound wasn’t coming out of America nor was it coming out of England, instead it was coming out of Germany and it was gooooood! It took one listen of that Dr Ring Ding’s song to know that this guy was the real deal.
