Pouzza Preview with Dave Hillyard on Roots Rock Rebel! May 15 podcast

Roots Rock Rebel

Wednesday, May 15, 2013

10pm-12am, CKUT, 90.3 FM, Montreal!

Good day radio massive! Welcome back to our weekly podcast of Roots Rock Rebel. This week, we bring you a POUZZA PREVIEW PODCAST to gear up for the mighty 3rd edition of the Pouzza Fest, a punk rock festival going down in downtown Montreal May 17-19. To gear you all up, we played a bunch of music by bands appearing at the festival, shared our picks for not-to-be-missed shows, and did an interview with Helene McKoy, one of the co-founders of Pouzza. Helene shared with us her love of punk, fast food, and fast music, plus gave some tips on best ways to enjoy the fest!

In the second hour of the program, we bring you an interview with Slackers saxophonist Dave Hillyard, who is set to launch a brand new album called “California”. Just today, Dave hit his goal of $5000 for the online fundraising campaign for the album, but you can still go to the campaign page and pre-order this amazing ska/reggae record on either mp3, CD, or vinyl!

Next week on the show, we’ll be airing an interview with Rob “Bucket” Hingley, front-man of The Toasters. Not only did the Toasters recently celebrate their 30th anniversary playing ska music around the world, but they just released a brand new EP called “House of Soul” on Bucket’s own Megalith record label. Don’t miss that!

Plus in coming weeks, we’ll be bringing you interviews with The Transplants, The Prizefighters, and more!

Until next week, stay rude, and stay rebel!

Hey! Ho! Let’s go!!

Welcome to another weekly podcast of Roots Rock Rebel! Our special guest on the show this week is no stranger to the Montreal and Canadian ska scenes – Kristen of Kman and the 45s! The band has just come off their first ever cross-Canada tour, and just released their second full-length album “The Skamones Vol. 1″. As the name would suggest, the album serves up 10 covers of some of the best Ramones punk rock tunes done ska style. The band is planning to head back across Canada in September, and are playing all around Quebec and Ontario this summer. Check out their website to get all the info!
