Two New Releases Out Today

It’s 4/20 and it’s a good day in the world of ska and reggae music. Besides the obvious, two big new releases have hit the streets! Both eagerly anticipated, both having something different to offer.

One release comes to us from New York by way of the pound paving Slackers. They’ve put out a couple of albums since their last proper release, which found them experimenting and reworking their early tunes. The new album is called The Great Rocksteady Swindle and is out on Hellcat Records. This release finds the group exploring those heavy ska and reggae riddims and sounds they they hit with in the early days. Recorded in just a few days after tour in Germany, the album is inspired by recent events in individual member’s lives. Raw emotion and strong feelings pour through each song as each member brought something different to the table. Hear for for yourself and pick it up at www.theslackers.com

The other album out today come to us from the UK and hits North American soil by way of Dancing Mood Media and us right here at Musical Occupation. Pama Outernational is the newest release from the reggae, soul sensation Pama International featuring members of The Specials Lynval Golding and Horace Panter. Outernational picks up where their last album left off and and brings heavy dub sounds drenched with a 1960′s Stax Records influence. Modern social commentary, and songs of love and loss fly high over neck breaking riddims. Get your copy here.

Please support good music made for a good cause and those bringing it to you. Help keep this music we love alive, well, and growing.

Pama Outernational North American Release

We have big news everyone!

As you know we are trying to expand Musical Occupation. We have big things planned and to fund those plans we have asked some friends to help. As you might have noticed, we have installed an online shop. In this shop we will be selling music and related merchandise from our friends in the ska and reggae community. All money earned will go directly into making our project Musical Occupation grow and forward our mission to further the heritage of Jamaican music and tell it’s story.

So it is our great pleasure to announce that Musical Occupation, Dancingmood Media and Rockers Revolt proudly present UK soul reggae sensation Pama International and their newest release “Pama Outernational”in stores & online April 20th.

The newest release from these dubtastic heavyweights features The Specials’ Lynval Golding and Sir Horace Panter! Further linking the band to the solid as a rock foundation laid by forefathers like Prince Buster and The Specials the album is produced by Sean Flowerdew & John Collins - producer of the iconic “Ghost Town”.

Heavyweight dub sounds rule the way on the brand new album which picks up where 2008′s critically acclaimed ‘Love Filled Dub Band’ album left off, shamelessly holding it’s influences high. King Tubby & Lee Perry’s dub style meet the southern soul sounds of 1960′s Stax, all the time remaining distinctly Pama.

Fronted by Sean Flowerdew, Finny and Lynval Golding (The Specials/Fun Boy 3) the album features a wonderfully diverse array of musical talent, Lenny Bignell (Lord Large), Gary Alesbrook (Kasabian), Fuzz Townshend (Bentley Rhythm Ace/PWEI) & Lynval’s fellow 2 Tone band mate Sir Horace Panter.

Produced by Sean Flowerdew and John Collins (producer of The Specials iconic ‘Ghost Town’)

Pre-Order the new album NOW and get a FREE instant download of a track from the album as well.

All physical items will be shipped out April 13, 2010 – 1 week before album hits stores.

We look forward to working to help the Ska and Reggae community grow through grass roots efforts like this.
