It’s 4/20 and it’s a good day in the world of ska and reggae music. Besides the obvious, two big new releases have hit the streets! Both eagerly anticipated, both having something different to offer.
One release comes to us from New York by way of the pound paving Slackers. They’ve put out a couple of albums since their last proper release, which found them experimenting and reworking their early tunes. The new album is called The Great Rocksteady Swindle and is out on Hellcat Records. This release finds the group exploring those heavy ska and reggae riddims and sounds they they hit with in the early days. Recorded in just a few days after tour in Germany, the album is inspired by recent events in individual member’s lives. Raw emotion and strong feelings pour through each song as each member brought something different to the table. Hear for for yourself and pick it up at www.theslackers.com
The other album out today come to us from the UK and hits North American soil by way of Dancing Mood Media and us right here at Musical Occupation. Pama Outernational is the newest release from the reggae, soul sensation Pama International featuring members of The Specials Lynval Golding and Horace Panter. Outernational picks up where their last album left off and and brings heavy dub sounds drenched with a 1960′s Stax Records influence. Modern social commentary, and songs of love and loss fly high over neck breaking riddims. Get your copy here.
Please support good music made for a good cause and those bringing it to you. Help keep this music we love alive, well, and growing.
