Review & Photos from Echoes Of Kingston Tour in Santa Rosa, Ca.

The Echoes Of Kingston tour came up to Santa Rosa in Northern California, and we were there to catch it all.

The Delirians opened up the show, soon joined by the one and only Queen P(Persephone Laird of Ocean 11). They wowed the crowd with their crisp renditions of classic Treasure Isle tunes. That Queen P’s voice was so beautiful over The Delerians groove, one couldn’t help but be swept away by it all.

Next up, Maddie Ruthless stepped on the stage backed by The Forthrights. On tour all the way from New Orleans, she declared she was about to kill a soundboy. Thunder shook, lighting struck, and a full on musical assault ensued. She sure knows how to command the stage!

After Maddie did her thing, she left the stage victorious, and The Forthright from New York showed us Northern California folk what Brooklyn Rocksteady is all about. Jack Wright laid into that keyboard and started bubbling, Matt Birdie cracked the snare, and they were off into a heavy set of rocksteady, ska, and reggae. Watching Jimmy Doyle, and Sammy Kay, play off one another on guitar and bass, it’s easy to see why they work so well. Just another day in the park, yet so impressive.

A huge thanks goes out to Ray, Jimmy Boom, Liz, Dennis, and everyone at Strange Manor for letting us all crash, and cooking up such delicious food!

CKUT, 90.3FM, Montreal!
Hello world o’ music fans,

Welcome to another weekly edition of the Roots Rock Rebel podcast! This week on the program, we were very pleased to welcome into the studio Reggae Dubline Corporation (aka RDC). RDC are a local Montreal reggae band who have been jamming around since 2007. With many live shows under their belt around the province of Quebec, the band are now refining their sound, especially with the recent release of their full-length album “Broadcastin’ vibes”. They came into the CKUT studio to play a couple live unplugged songs for us, and chat a bit about their work. Check ‘em out:

In the second hour of the program, we caught up with Alex Giguere of The Beatdown, who are launching their debut album on Stomp records next week (June 15th)! Here we get a taste of some of the offerings on this new album… it’s a scorcher!

King Django live at CKUT! April 21 podcast

Roots Rock Rebel
Wednesday, April 21, 2010
10pm-12am
CKUT, 90.3FM, Montreal!

Dear radio land,
So it’s been a funny week. It’s the end of the semester, so your faithful
radio host ain’t been sleeping much. Then I went to Toronto to go see the
Specials. It was supposed to be the show of a lifetime, and then they
postpone their show until August! The new Slackers record came out – that
was a plus. And then King Django drop me a line and says he’s coming
through Montreal and wants to come on the show. Amazing!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with King Django, he’s been one of
the main driving forces behind the New York ska scene since the mid 1980s.
He’s an established solo artist, but has also played with a whole slew of
acts such as Skinnerbox, The Slackers, Stubborn Allstars, and Rancid. Oh
yeah, and he runs a record label.

Anyways, it was a huge honour to have this legend in the biz come by the
CKUT studio for Roots Rock Rebel. Django spends the whole 2 hours of this
podcast with us, talking about life, music, and doing some live tracks!
Plus we played a bunch of amazing stuff on the Stubborn label. Check out
the podcast!

Until next week,
Stay rude, stay rebel,
Aaron Maiden
