Roots Rock Rebel
Wednesday, April 4, 2012
10pm-12am, CKUT, 90.3 FM, Montreal!
Hello rebels!
Here’s our Roots Rock Rebel podcast for this week! This week on the podcast, we bring you an interview with rocksteady reggae legend Dawn Penn. In case you don’t know Dawn’s golden voice, she brought the world hits like “No no no” and “To sir with love” straight from Jamaica. We spoke with her about some of her more recent recordings, the 50th anniversary of Jamaica’s independence, and also her upcoming performance at the London International Ska Festival, going down in the UK from May 3-6. Get all the info about that wonderful festival here: www.londoninternationalskafestival.co.uk
We were also joined in the second hour of the program by our good friend DJ Mossman, who spun a really nice set of 45s he just brought back from Jamaica. Moss and Aaron Maiden have just started up the monthly Pressure Drop series in Montreal again, now going down at the Casa del Popolo. So if you live in Montreal, and you like these sounds, join the Pressure Drop Facebook group! The next one will be on May 3rd!
Other than that, we heard some pro-migration, anti-border music from Tiken Jah Fakoly, Outernational, Propagandhi, and more!
Next week on the program, we’ll bring you another interview with a reggae legend, Dave Barker, as well as The Dualers, and we’ll be doing more of a sneak preview of the London Ska Festival.
Until next week, stay rude, and stay rebel!
