CKUT, 90.3 FM, Montreal!
Hello shanty town dwellers! Welcome to another weekly Roots Rock Rebel podcast! What’s that you say? You don’t give a fuck that some idiot just jumped from outerspace because it was all just a big ad for Red Bull? Good! Neither do we. Ahem… now, let’s get on with things.
Is there an album or a band out there that absolutely changed your life? Like really fucking changed you and rocked you to the core? For me, it was definitely “Less Talk, More Rock” by the Winnipeg-based punk band Propagandhi. I remember sitting in my grade 10 French class and memorizing the entire liner notes to that album instead of reading Victor Hugo. It was my first introduction to many amazing theories like feminism, anarchism, and atheism. I never fucking looked back.
So it was a huge honour for me to sit down with Jord and Todd from Propagandhi (drums and bass, respectively) for an interview when they rolled through Montreal on September 28, 2012. We talked about everything from the recent student strike in Quebec, to Palestine and the BDS campaign, to their new album “Failed States” and their choice to join Epitaph Records. Enjoy the interview!
We also paid tribute to Tommi Infamous of Bomb Town who very sadly and unexpectedly passed away last week at the age of 29. There is a very nice obituary to him on the Marco on the Bass blog, but I just spun some of my favorite Bomb Town tracks. Rest in peace, Tommi I!
Don’t forget that the CKUT Radio funding drive is just around the corner, so on October 31st we’re going to be having a very special Halloween edition, and asking you to donate to support Roots Rock Rebel. And hey, if you’re really eager, you can even donate right away by clicking here!
Very exciting interviews in the weeks to come with Obi Fernandez and D’bi Young!
Until next week, stay rude, and stay rebel!
