Roots Rock Rebel

10pm-12am, CKUT, 90.3 FM, Montreal!
Hello, and welcome to our weekly podcast! The Montreal Ska Festival just wrapped up here, and we are fast preparing for our annual funding drive special on SKALLOWEEN, Ocotober 31st! If you enjoy the Roots Rock Rebel podcast, the weekly interviews we bring you, and all this amazing music, please donate and support by clicking here!
On this week’s show, our special guest was Obi Fernandez. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Obi, he is of course the lead singer for the Boston-based ska supergroup Westbound Train, and he has been taking a break from the band to focus a lot on his solo music over the last couple of years.
Obi’s first full-length solo album was released on August 21st, and it’s called “Confessions, Waves, and the Garden State”. The album’s title sums up the experience of his new home in New Jersey, recording this album by the ocean in California (with Brian Dixon of The Aggrolites), and the honesty and sincerity of the lyrical content. The result is one that will please Westbound Train’s loyal fans, but also take you some place different. It’s reggae with tinges of soul and folk. A definite crowd-pleaser. You can buy the new album and get more information at www.obifernandez.com
Also in the show this week, we heard new music from a great new Queens rocksteady band, The Frightnrs, Toronto skinhead-reggae The Harmonauts, and Saskatchewan punk rockers Kleins 96.
Enjoy this week’s podcast, and please tune in this week for our Skalloween FUNding drive special and donate to keep ska radio and podcasts alive!
Until next week, stay rude, and stay rebel!

Really enjoyed the set, thanks. I love hearing the mix of punk and ska/reggae on the same show. The Refused tune got me psyched to see them this weekend.
