I first heard them on my friend’s record player in his dad’s garage – I heard many a good records in my friend’s dad’s garage! I had no idea what hearing The Beat’s music would do for my musical listening future. The Beat’s first album, ‘I Just Can’t Stop It’, turned me onto other Two-Tone bands (The Specials, Bad Manners, Madness, The Selector, etc), which in turn had me looking back to the Jamaican classics and the rest is history. Back in 1982 I would have never have thought that I could ever owe ‘The Complete Beat’ but now in 2012, in just a few days, I can. You can! We all can!

“Darryl: Now that you’re back, will you make a fourth album? “Dave Wakeling: Well, we’ve got 20-odd new songs. We play three or four a night in the set, and people say quite a lot of them sound like the first Beat album. But I don’t know about an album. I’m thinking about EPs. I always used to love EPs; I wasn’t too much of an albums person myself. I was more a singles man, really. So an EP, I could just about tolerate that.” The English Beat’s ‘Which Side of the Bed’ and ‘Save it For Later’.
