Mobtown Ska Sounds Episode 74 DC Ska/Reggae Mix
I have worked on dcska.com for close to 10 years now. I started writing for the site when I was 19 yrs old and the scene has changed and grown alot during that time. And I sometimes neglect some of the great bands from this area so this is my chance at redemption. I put together this podcast to not only to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of dcska.com, but to make aware of some of the great bands that are no more. Michelle aka dcskagirl took over the sight in 2000 and really helped build up a community. Also some of the bands are from Baltimore and VA not just DC. To this day I have made lifelong friendships with people that share this common interest and love of ska and reggae music. The Pietasters, Eastern Standard Time, and Checkered Cabs may be bands you have heard of but I am sure there are some bands on this podcast you may not have heard of. Also I usually do not play bands I have been in but this podcast I included tracks from Ready Steady Go! and an unreleased track from the Chariots (from our new album coming out very soon).
Also Volume 2 of this show will be played this coming Sunday on Real Punk Radio at 5am and 5pm EST.
Enjoy

I love this episode cause it’s DC bands and because it’s great music! I’ve been looking for DC bands to play on my show. Might steal some of these. I also didn’t know that The Smooths were from this area. I picked up Very Own Vegas when they opened for Reel Big Fish in Pittsburgh ~10 years ago. Had local ska in my library and didn’t even realize it.
hey thanks for including our song
Alot of these bands (these songs) were on DC Ska! from 96.
Nothing beats Jarhead’s Sweet Tits.
