Introducing: Danny Rebel and the KGB – Straight outta Montreal!

Yes indeed! For the latest rebel reggae straight outta the 514, look no further than Montreal’s Danny Rebel and the KGB. They are one of the hottest new bands on the Montreal ska/reggae scene, and they’re starting to get the attention they deserve.
With a sound that blends skinhead reggae, traditional ska, hip-hop scratching, and a whole lotta soul, Danny Rebel and the KGB provide a no-holds-barred audio assault that’s got the dancefloors of frosty Montreal moving.
While being far from a gang of Russian police thugs, this band is turning a lot of heads. They were certainly one of the highlights of the Montreal Ska Festival of 2009, and also graced the stage at last summer’s Montreal International Reggae Festival in the city’s old port.

Their influences are global and diverse, with lots of hints of the Maytals, The Clash, Sublime, and more. Their concerts often incorporate a rowdy live mashup of “Police on my back” by the Clash and “Liquidator” by Harry J Allstars. Lead singer and guitarist Danny Rebel also credits his roots from the Philippines as part of the band’s musical influence.
2010 holds a lot of potential for this band. With a solid 4 song EP already under their belt, they plan on releasing a full-length album this year, and hopefully do a full Canadian tour in the summer.
